FTSE 250 movers: Gold miners drop, Superdry bounces

By Duncan Ferris

Date: Monday 21 Jan 2019

LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 250 was down 0.16% at 18,734.24 in afternoon trade on Monday, as Indivior and gold miners led the index a fraction lower.
Opioid addiction treatment specialist Indivior was the top faller despite no particular news.

It was closely followed down by precious metals miners Acacia Mining and Centamin which dropped after China, the metal's number one consumer nation, posted its slowest economic growth in nearly three decades.

Real estate investment trust company Hammerson was in the red after a downgrade to 'neutral' in a note from analysts at JPMorgan, which also sent NewRiver REIT lower with its assessment that 2019 will be "another difficult year for European Listed Property".

Stobart crept lower after Sky News reported that 19% Flybe shareholder Hosking Partners is looking to mount a court challenge discounted sale to of the struggling airline to Stobart's consortium with Virgin Atlantic.

Entertainment One continued to top the charts after a promotional video featuring Peppa Pig, the loveable cartoon pig who's show is produced by the company, went viral in China and toymaker Character Group commented on the character's brand strength in a trading update late last week.

Dixons Carphone, which is due to issue a trading update on Tuesday, climbed after Sky News reported that activist investor Elliott Advisors is exploring plans to buy a "big stake" in the firm, while Wizz Air was on the up as oil prices slipped back and as HSBC upped its stance on fellow budget airline Ryanair to 'buy' from 'reduce'.

Finally, clothing retailer Superdry made gains following a Sunday Times report that former boss Julian Dunkerton will call an extraordinary general meeting of the company's shareholders in the next four weeks as he looks to return to the group.
