Small caps round-up: Hardy Oil, Scotgold, IGas Energy...

Date: Thursday 19 Aug 2010

LONDON (ShareCast) - India-focused Hardy Oil and Gas is near a five-month high after it narrowed half-year losses to $1.3m from $4.3m in 2009.

The firm also expects gross daily output at its PY-3 field to average 3,100 barrels a day (bbld) in 2010. The daily average for the group was 2,953 bbld in the half-year to June 30, down from 3,016 bbld a year ago, and is expected to average 3,400 bbld through for the rest of the year.

Scotgold Resources, which found high gold and silver grades in veins at Beinn Udlaidh in Scotland earlier this week, has slumped by a third after planning permission for a gold and silver mine at Cononish was refused.

“Scotgold is considering its options in relation to this refusal but is likely to appeal to the Scottish Ministers,” it said.

Revenue dropped at UK gas producer and unconventional gas firm, IGas Energy, during the first half to £252,000 from £348,000 a year ago, while operating losses grew to £547,000 from £159,000.

The group blamed the numbers on the bigger team needed to deliver full scale production, and said it remains on track to establish its first full UK gas production site in 2011.

Sunrise Resources thinks a previously documented boulder could indicate the presence of as yet undiscovered barite veins of high commercial value running parallel with existing mine workings.

The miner’s completed a programme of sampling for barite from underground mine workings at the past-producing Derryginagh barite mine in Ireland. Test work on 20 samples is expected to take about nine weeks to complete.

GGG Resources, which has changed its name from Central China Goldfields to reflect the sale of its Nimu copper project in Tibet, is “highly encouraged” by results from a seven diamond drill hole programme at the Bullabulling gold project in Western Australia.

Managing director Jeff Malaihollo said results for the joint venture within the Coolgardie goldfields confirms “the continuity of mineralisation, identify the depth extension and in addition identify new areas of mineralisation”.

Aminex has drilled the Olympia Minerals-10-1 well in Louisiana to a total measured depth of 12,410 feet (3,783 metres) and has logged potentially hydrocarbon-bearing sands in the Cockfield and Upper Wilcox formations.

Emerging markets-focused drilling outfit Capital Drilling has reported a drop in half-year revenue to $28.9m from $29.7m a year ago, and dip in profit to $4.6m from $5.3m, though that matched expectations flagged at its IPO in June.

Executive chairman Jamie Boyton says there are further signs of improvement, with requests for tenders on new and existing jobs increasing, albeit still below record levels seen in 2008.
