FTSE 100 movers: Experian boosted by upgrade; supermarkets slump

(ShareCast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 0.5% to 7,491.14 in afternoon trade on Tuesday as investors digested the latest UK inflation figures.
Consumer credit reporting agency Experian was the standout gainer after an upgrade to 'outperform' at Exane BNP Paribas.

British Gas owner Centrica followed close behind, as gas prices surged after an explosion at a natural gas facility near Austria's border with Slovakia and as Britain's Forties pipeline - which carries 40% of North Sea oil and gas - was closed for repair due to a crack.

BP and Shell also gushed higher as oil prices rallied due to the closure of the Forties pipeline.

On the downside, supermarket chains Morrisons and Sainsburys retreated following the release of the latest data from Kantar Worldpanel. Sainsburys sales were 2% higher in the past 12 weeks, but the supermarket chain saw its market share drop to 16.3% from 16.5%. Meanwhile, Morrisons till receipts were up 1.4% and its share down two points to 10.6%.

Sainsburys was also likely taking a hit from its inclusion in a Goldman Sachs list of 10 Sell Ideas, with retailer Next also in the frame and suffering losses.

Glencore was on the back foot despite saying at an investor presentation that it plans to double its dividend, restart some zinc production and increase spending.
