Cineworld to operate O2 multiplex

Date: Friday 25 Jun 2010

Cinema chain Cineworld has won the gig to operate the O2 multiplex cinema in London for the next 25 years.

It has agreed a lease with the Waterfront Limited Partnership, part of the Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), with Cineworld assuming operational control of the complex on 25 June 2010.

The cinema complex, which is contained within The O2 music arena, has 11 screens and can seat up to 2,844 people.

In 2009 its box office takings were £4.1m, according to data from Nielsen EDI.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“The O2 is not just the world's most popular music venue but also has a vibrant Entertainment District, and we see this exciting agreement as a significant step in further developing The O2, and offering visitors the best in big screen entertainment,” said David Campbell, chief executive officer and president of AEG Europe.
