Small caps round-up: Lidco, Hardide, Bulgarian Property...

LONDON (ShareCast) - Heart monitoring equipment supplier Lidco has signed a distribution agreement for the sale of its LiDCOrapid Monitor and disposables in Germany with Ratingen-based Absolute Medical.

Tungsten coating firm Hardide is to shed staff as part of a cost reduction programme after being hit by a slump in demand for its technology’s use in coating engineering components. The firm, which has 26 staff in the UK and seven in the US, said it has felt the knock-on effects of slowness in the oil and gas, automotive and construction industries.

AIM-listed Bulgarian Property has conceded defeat in its battle to stay independent and warned shareholders that if they do not accept the offer from Windsorville they could be left owning a minority interest in a private company, with little chance of realising their investment in the company. Windsorville declared its 16p a share cash offer unconditional 6 March, with 52.39% acceptances.

Marine engineer TGE saw profits and revenues fall in the half year to to December with little sign of markets turning up yet. Turnover was €36.8m( €46.7m) with profits of €6.4m (H1 2008: €8.6m). "The current global economic crisis is presenting particularly challenging market conditions for the gas carrier sector. Ship owners continue to be extremely cautious before placing new orders and are generally reluctant to commit in these unstable conditions," it said.

Composter TEG and UTS Biogastechnik have entered into a partnership and collaboration agreement to develop Anaerobic Digestion facilities in the UK. UTS is a market leader in AD technology with an impressive track record of facilities throughout Europe, having constructed more than 70 turnkey AD plants and supplied equipment into 1,500 AD facilities over a period of 15 years.

Student accommodation provider Unite has signed a joint venture agreement with Connaught, which will be responsible for providing reactive and planned maintenance services across Unite's estate. The joint venture will generate cost savings of approximately £2m per annum for Unite.

Good figures for 2008 from foam maker Zotefoams were overshadowed by a warning that "Trading for the first two months of 2009 is at lower levels of volumes than anticipated and the lack of forward order visibility makes the outlook more uncertain than it has been for many years,". In 2008, profits rose 17% to £3.93m, on sales up 10% at £34.8m.The dividend for the year is unchanged at 4.5p.

Cosentino Signature Wines, the Napa Valley based wine company, said talks with its senior debt providers about its debt situation are at an advanced stage.

The company remains focused on debt reduction and control, and has been rationalising all of its operating facilities to improve operational efficiency.

Bioscience firm Abcam said pre-tax profits rose 128.3% to £6.8m on sales that increased 50.6% to £23.1m.

Alexander Mining said it is attracting increasing interest in its innovative MetaLeach technologies. It has signed ten revenue generating agreements with mining companies to date and is in discussions with more.

Digital screen media specialist Avanti has secured further funding through the issue of £250,000 of convertible loans, which it will use to fund working capital.

Software testing company SQS Software Quality Systems boosted pre-tax profit to €10.8m in 2008, up from €9.7m the year before, and lifted adjusted profit by 26% to €13.1m. Turnover rose 18% to €142.9m.

“We are expecting a similar healthy performance for the first quarter of 2009, and, as such, are looking forward to the remainder of the year with a significant degree of confidence,” said chief executive Rudolf van Megen.

NHS staff supplier Nestor Healthcare made a pre-tax profit of £30.4m in the year ended 31 December, compared with £8.9m last year, thanks to a £31.1m profit on the sale of its franchise domiciliary care business Carewatch.
